“This is an Olympic win for Canada and for Canadian manufacturers,” said Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters president Jason Myers when the Canadian arm of the American arms dealer General Dynamics landed a massive, $10 billion to $13 billion contract to supply light armoured vehicles (LAVs) to Saudi Arabia.

Trade Minister Ed Fast announced the deal in the middle of the Winter Olympics. The patriotic fervour spilled over into the business boosterism.

“Like all victories,” crowed Myers, “it’s been the result of a team effort in which the government has played a crucial role. All Canadians should be proud of this record achievement.”
