ACTIVITIES/ACTIONS

SEPTEMBER 20 2014: SASKATCHEWAN PEOPLE’S SOCIAL FORUM

  • Partnering with the Making Peace Vigil and the Regina Peace Council, we had a peace table where we displayed PeaceQuest white squares, peace sign stickers, and a collection of peace pamphlets and newsletters.
  • We also put on a workshop: Military Training in Regina High Schools: Countering the Militarization of our Youth. The workshop was in response to an announcement earlier in the month that, as of February 2015, military training would be offered in Regina high schools, both public and Catholic, for credit and money.

25 people attended the workshop and there was an excellent discussion on effective action.

SEPTEMBER 21 2014: INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

A request was put in to the city that Mayor Michael Fougere proclaim September 21 International Day of Peace. The proclamation was issued. (See 3rd attachment.) The proclamation was also published in the September 18 – October 1 2014 issue of Prairie Dog, p 8.

ONGOING

A letter-to-the-editor campaign to oppose the introduction of military training in Regina high schools is ongoing. To date, four of our members have had letters published.
