The World Remembers: An Evening for Peace is a concert in collaboration with the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts as part of its Global Salon Series. The concert features the Cantabile Men’s and Women’s Choruses, Lute Legends, drumECHO, and the Mulberry-Waldorf Children’s Choir. The music will be backed by the poignant projections created by Canadian actor R.H. Thomson: The World Remembers is a visual memorial, marking World War I by displaying the names of the millions who died on both sides of that tragic conflict.
About the Isabel

About Lute Legends
The Lute Legends Ensemble is a new collaboration between three of Toronto’s most noted performers and teachers of plucked-string instruments. Each player represents one of three ancient musical traditions: the glorious polyphony of the European Renaissance and Baroque, the virtuosic modal improvisation of the Middle East, and the picturesque musical depiction of nature from China. The lute, the oud, and the pipa each evolved extremely different playing techniques and styles along different parts of the Silk Road centuries ago. This new ensemble now brings the three instruments together in a cross-traditional experiment for the twenty-first century.
About The World Remembers
Over the years 2014 – 2018, the project will display the million of names of the soldiers killed in WWI in names-display installations in Canada and other participating countries. The names will be displayed in schools, on personal communication devices such as Smartphones and Tablets, in a major national display in Confederation Square in Ottawa and in other Canadian cities. All names will be respectfully and meaningfully presented in Canada and in other nations regardless of the armies in which they fought. All WWI nations have been invited to participate. Each of the names will be programmed to appear at a precise minute allowing students and families to find the exact moment when the name of a lost relative will appear.
About Cantabile Choirs Kingston
Since 1996 the Cantabile Choirs of Kingston, under the leadership of Dr. Mark Sirett, have thrilled local and regional audiences in performances of a diverse range of choral music from Canada and around the world.
The choirs are famous in Kingston and beyond for joyful concerts full of non-traditional staging, diverse repertoire and singing which demonstrates great skill and enthusiasm. Over the years, Cantabile has grown to include six choirs and over 250 voices, singing music which engages and entertains at every event.
