Join PeaceQuest Kingston on Thursday September 20^th for a dramatic reading of The Song of Those Who Healed: The Words of Women Who Served in the First World War. Compiled and narrated by RH Thomson with support from faculty, actors and musicians from the Dan School of Drama and Music, the stories were drawn from the writings and interviews of five women from Canada, Britain, and the United States.

The evening will also feature projections from The World Remembers Project and a special curated display by the Museum of Health Care at Kingston. The Museum will be bringing a selection of objects from its exhibition Trench Menders: Health Care during the First World War including items developed to save lives such as the first gas mask, objects used for dentistry as well as surgery or anesthesia. Come learn more about some of the challenges of the Canadian Army Medical Corps.

The World Remembers is the brainchild of eminent Canadian actor R.H. Thomson, 2015 recipient of the Governor General’s Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement in Theatre. Over the last three years, millions of names of the WWI dead from participating nations were displayed in locations across Canada and in other countries. 2018 marks the centenary of the end of WWI and is the last year of the project.

Each name appears at designated times in the approximate order of their deaths, including those from nations on all sides of the conflict. The 2018 display of 1,003,167 names from sixteen nations will run daily starting September 12th and complete November 11th. Kingston locations participating in The World Remembers Project will be announced in the coming weeks.
