PeaceQuest is proudly co-sponsoring the upcoming Martyn Joseph concert here in Kingston. It’s a production of the Live Wire Music Series. Date: Saturday evening, April 16, 7:30 p.m. at the Octave Theatre. (Located on Dalton Ave., just west of Sir John A, right at the 401 exit.)
Martyn is a Welsh singer-songwriter. He’s been called “the Welsh Springsteen”. With a career spanning 30 years, 32 albums, over a half a million record sales and thousands of live performances, the versatility of his music touches folk, rock, soul and funk — yet all these labels somehow cannot define the spirit and power of his music. No musician anywhere focuses more directly and effectively on issues of peace and social justice.
Opening for Martyn will be the U.K. duo, the Red Dirt Skinners — that’s Sarah and Rob Skinner. Their music blends country, folk, honky-tonk and blues — their genre-busting sound has led to them being the first band in history to succeed at both the British Blues Awards and the British Country Music Awards. Their saxophone and guitar instrumentation is unusual and highly effective, and their vocal work is exquisite.
