Monday, September 21, UN International Day of Peace
To celebrate this international Day of Peace we invite you to bring your lunch and join in a Peace Picnic over the noon hour (anytime from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) by our PeaceQuest Tree across from the Court House at the corner of Barrie and Stuart Streets. Actually there are two PQ Peace trees – a 100 year old oak, alive at the beginning of WWI, and a two year old one that we planted two years ago when we inaugurated PeaceQuest in Kingston. So, weather permitting we can gather anywhere between these two trees that are not far apart. Both have markers. . Please bring your own blanket or chair. However, if it is raining we will postpone the picnic until the next International Day of September 21, 2016.
We encourage all faith communities with bells, especially those in the downtown area, to ring their bells in the hopeful promise of peace anytime over the noon hour. We would love to hear them ringing as we picnic in the park. Feel free to bring your own bells or drums and we can play along during any singing that might occur during the picnic. Our PeaceQuest partners in Regina, SK. are ringing their bells 70 times for the 70 years that have passed since the first atomic bomb was dropped. May it NEVER happen again!
We look forward to your publication of and active participation in this event.
